Since my mother passed away in 2015, I have been deeply engaged in my own experiences with spiritual presence. This journey has profoundly shaped my work and ability to hold space for others exploring similar encounters. I bring a personal and professional lens to this work, offering a compassionate and grounded approach while being vastly open-minded to anything we encounter.

My expertise is greatly enriched by being a student and supervisee of Robert (Bob) Falconer, an internationally recognized pioneer in the field of spiritual presence within IFS. Bob’s groundbreaking work on “The Others Within Us” provides a framework for understanding the spiritual dimensions of our internal systems, including unattached burdens (UBs), guides, Legacy, past lives, and ancestors.

Bob’s personal journey began many decades ago on his quest to heal from extreme sexual and relational trauma. For the past 14 years Bob has been exploring, researching and healing spiritual presence experiences after encountering an unattached burden during an IFS training session. This transformative experience catalyzed his deep exploration of spiritual presences, culminating in his acclaimed book, The Others Within Us: Internal Family Systems, Porous Mind, and Spirit Possession. Through an advanced consultation group with Bob and other Australian IFS therapists, I honed my ability to work skillfully with these unique aspects of the psyche, both in my own system and for clients.

What Are Spiritual Presences in IFS?

Spiritual presences—such as unattached burdens, guides, ancestors, and legacy burdens—are not parts of our internal system or Self but external energies or influences that can become entangled with our psyche. These presences can be understood, released, or integrated through compassionate and skilled facilitation which can bring about profound clarity and healing.
